Anil Kalhan, University of Drexel Law Professor will provide opening remarks.
Penn Law's Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and the Dean's Speakers Fund are pleased to announce an appearance by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The event will be at University of Penn Law School, Gittis Hall Room 214 this Thursday, November 20, from 6:00 to 7:00. Special thanks to Philadelphia Guild member and Mid-Atlantic Regional Vice President, Ryan Hancock, for bringing Chief Justice Chaudhry to Philadelphia, and working diligently to make this event possible!
This is one of a very few appearances he is making in the United States, and we are very pleased he's chosen to speak at Penn Law.
Pakistan Supreme Court Chief Justice Chaudhry was appointed to Pakistan's Supreme Court by President Musharraf in 2005. Two years later, his position was suspended by President Musharraf, and Chaudhry was placed under house arrest, where he remained until March of this year. Chief Justice Chaudhry will be speaking about the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary. He will
be accompanied by prominent Pakistani lawyer, Athar Minallah, who is leading the campaign to restore Chaudhry to his position as Chief Justice.
