Artist Residency Concludes in Germantown

C.P. Krishnapriya and Narendran Kumar, South Asia Center's artists in residence, concluded their work with SAC by installing their final exhibition at iMPeRFeCT Gallery in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. They conducted a workshop with students from Germantown Friends School and Chestnut Hill College, and hosted a well received opening reception.

The student workshop was part of the South Asia Center's K-12 outreach program and exposed students to new concepts about Indian history and culture through lecture, discussion, and exploration of the artists' work.

The following night, Krishnapriya and Narendran's art was made open to the public, and community members from UPenn and Germantown showed up in support. Over the course of the evening more than 120 people came out to see the exhibition and about 20 contributed scar stories to the artists' film project being shot on site.

In addition to exploring Krishnapriya and Narendarn's installation guests were able to view work by Michael Williamson, whose paintings were on exhibit, and work by Ronniere Spacely, who gave a live multimedia performance using music, video, and paint.
The South Asia Center would like to give a big thank you to Krishnapriya and Narendran for participating in this flagship program. Through this initiative we were able to send four students to Chennai to participate in an artist residency, invited two Indian artists to the US, organized two art exhibitions and two public talks that attracted more than 300 members of the public and conducted seven educational workshops serving more than two 200 students!

"Migrate," will remain on display at iMPeRFeCT Gallery until December 30, 2017. Stop by if you weren't able to make it to one of the opening receptions. iMPerFeCT Gallery is located at 5539 Germantown Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19144.
