George Rosen, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, died on January 8, 2018 at the age of 97. He was an early pioneer of research by American scholars in independent India. His book Industrial Change in India, first published in 1958, was revised and republished several times. He continued to study Indian economic development throughout his long career, and published extensively on India and comparative studies of development. George was married to another renowned India scholar, Sylvia Vatuk, Professor Emerita of Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Chicago who survives him. Both George and Sylvia are former AIIS Research Fellows
