World Culture Day at Penn Museum

Guests from nine Philadelphia schools celebrated World Culture Day at Penn Museum last month. On February 9th, 135 students and teachers arrived at the museum for a day of lectures, workshops, gallery tours, and music performances.

The day started with a dynamic keynote lecture by Brahim El Guabli,  a fifth year graduate student from Princeton University focused in North African and Middle Eastern literature. Following Brahim’s lecture students engaged in international classroom workshops and guided gallery tours. Both programs focused on exploring and learning more about Kenya, India, Egypt, and China.

The day ended with an engaging musical performance by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, a Philadelphia based group which offers structured exposure to language, art, and music of the Arab world.
