Get PAID to Study South Asian Languages! DEADLINE MARCH 1

  • Get paid to build your South Asian language skills?

  • Add a prestigious fellowship to your resume at the same time?

Did you know you the South Asia Center offers FLAS Fellowships of $15,000 for the Academic Year study of any modern South Asian language?

That’s right.  You can use the fellowship for language study right here at Penn, OR at a qualified study abroad program**.

Too busy during the academic year to pursue your love of languages?  We also offer FLAS Fellowships of up to $7,500 for summer language study.

You can use the fellowship at any qualified domestic or overseas program.  Many students choose the South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI), in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin; or the American Institute for Indian Studies (AIIS) summer language program, which features programs throughout India.   However, many other programs also qualify.

Want to learn more?  Visit the FLAS website, where you’ll find FAQs, the online application and instructions, and a list of eligible languages.  Still have questions?  Contact FLAS Coordinator Jody Chavez, Tel. 215-898-8816, or just stop by Williams Hall, Room 818 (within the main South Asia Studies suite) during business hours.

Ready to Apply?  It’s easy.  You’ll need the following:
