The South Asia Center is proud to report on the achievements of one of our students, Sonya Davey, a South Asia Studies Major who is part of a group of four students whose project for the Dell Social Innovation Challenge is currently the top voted of the three finalists of the competition. It has also been selected as one of 10 finalists in the PanIIT Business Plan Competition.

Their concept is a valiant one, to stop sex-selective abortions in developing countries.

"Our mission is to curb female feticide. We have developed a novel ultrasound technology that automatically prevents the identification of genitalia in live images produced by ultrasound machines. We have developed a novel and IP-protected ultrasound software, which employs an algorithm to efficiently and accurately locate and hide the genitalia in live images produced by ultrasound machines. Our patented algorithm has an accuracy of 95-99% in automatically blurring genital organ."

You can help them by voting for their project on the Dell Challenge website. Keep an eye out for these young innovators!
