Asia Day: Understanding Asia through the lens of Media

High school educators and their students are invited to participate in Asia Day 2017. This free one-day event provides high school students with an opportunity to nurture interest in Asia Studies and gain a better understanding of this incredibly diverse and exciting region. This year’s theme is, “Understanding Asia through the lens of Media.” Students will here from Penn faculty members about exciting topics like the importance of media literacy, tour exhibits in the Penn Museum related to ancient forms of mass communication and entertainment, taste Pan-Asian cuisine for lunch, participate in interactive performances and activities and experience a day on Penn’s campus!

 

Space is limited to 130. Priority is given to School District of Philadelphia schools. If you are interested in attending Asia Day 2016 with your class please email SouthAsiaCenter@upenn.edu with the following details:

8:30: Arrival

9:00- 9:45: Penn Faculty Lecture: Reading Between the Lines of Popular Media: A South Asia Perspective

10:00-11:30: Ancient forms of Mass Communication and Entertainment at the Penn Museum and International Classroom sessions (led by Penn Students)

12:00-12:45PM: Pan-Asia Lunch

12:45-1:30- Penn Faculty Lecture: Islam and the Middle East: How the News Media Shapes Perception.
1:30-2PM:  Performances by Penn Student Groups
