Headlines out of India in recent years have mostly focused on growing numbers of cases of violence against girls and women. But those numbers also reflect a reality we don't hear about as much - Indian girls and women today feel more empowered to report incidences of violence than a few decades ago. 

Rhitu Chatterjee is a Pulitzer Center grantee and reporter and editor on NPR's Science Desk. She has spent Several years covering gender issues in India and will speak about how to tell nuanced, deep and surprising stories about a topic that makes for sensational headlines and predictable narratives.
