Job Opening: Associate Director South Asia Center

  The South Asia Center’s mission is to enhance the study of South Asia at Penn (India, Pakistan, Afghanistran, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal) and within the wider community. The Center supports faculty and student research, conferences, curriculum development, outreach, and other activities and events related to modern and pre-modern South Asia. The Center connects scholars with interests in South Asia across the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Penn s professional schools, and within the wider community. Current initiatives include new structured research opportunities for Penn undergraduates through the Center’s C.U. in India short-term study abroad courses, course development grants for Penn faculty in STEM fields, the development of new courses across the university to help prepare students for international careers in South Asia, support for South Asia related curriculum development and teacher training in K-16 institutions within the greater Philadelphia area, and a very popular Affiliated Faculty program. The South Asia Center also serves as a National Resource Center for the US Department of Education.   The Associate Director performs the following tasks: oversee the general programming of the Center, including the outreach program, the CU in India and SE Asia program, the Alumni in South Asia initiative, the Affiliated Faculty program, and strategic partnerships. Manage the FLAS Fellowship program. Prepare budgets and oversee all center accounts. Participate in development of overall fundraising strategy and plan for the Center. Act as liaison to US Department of Education, and prepare and submit reports as required by the Title VI grant. Prepare federal and non-federal grant applications to support language, outreach, and other Center initiatives. Manage the Center’s performance measurement and evaluation plan. Work with Center Director and advisory committee on new initiatives and long-range planning. Supervise the full-time Assistant Director and the full time Programming and Events Coordinator, and student workers.   Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Master’s degree or higher is strongly preferred. Experience with Title VI programs and a proven track record of successful grant management strongly desired. Ability to handle multiple projects with strong attention to detail; exceptional writing skills (preferably with demonstrated experience in grant writing); analytic thinker; customer service focused with the ability to build working relationships internally, at Penn and externally with community partners, alumni, and consultants; outgoing personality interested in and capable of cultivating relationships with prospective donors. Financial management experience in a University setting is extremely helpful. Supervisory experience is helpful.
