SAC Welcomes New Associate Director

Mollie Laffin-Rose joined the South Asia Center as Associate Director in Summer 2018. She oversees the Center’s general programming, including student Research Internships and the C.U. in India study abroad program, the Alumni in South Asia initiative, the Affiliated Faculty Program, and strategic partnerships. She also manages the Center’s National Resource Center activities and Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship, both funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Mollie previously served as Administrative Coordinator of Penn’s Center for the Advanced Study of India, from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that, she managed socioeconomic development programs in India in the Livelihoods and Education sectors, including with the American India Foundation and Educational Initiatives; and taught English as a Second Language. Mollie holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Wesleyan University and is a candidate for dual M.S.Ed. degrees from Penn’s Graduate School of Education, in Higher Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Mollie is proud to join the SAC team and expand her work in India-based education programs to the broader South Asia region. She looks forward to expanding students’ opportunities in South Asia, including through internships, study abroad, and connections with alumni working in the region, and in enriching South Asia engagement on campus and in the Philadelphia community. She is particularly interested in foreign language programs, including the FLAS Fellowship and new initiatives in comparative languages and Global Englishes.
