Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Doctoral Researcher, Department of Anthropology

Ahana Ghosh is presently affiliated as a Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Anthropology. Professor Kathleen. D. Morrison is the program's faculty host and academic advisor. Ahana is a doctoral scholar and teaching assistant pursuing her research at the Archaeological Sciences Centre, Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, under the supervision of Professor Sharada Channarayapatna. Besides, she is a student ambassador representing South- Asia at the ‘Society for Archaeological Sciences.’ Previously, she was an ‘Early Career Researcher’ in the ‘Rewriting World Archaeology program’ patronized by ‘Durham University,’ ‘Antiquity Trust,’ and the ‘British Academy.’ She held Visiting Researcher positions at the ‘Ceramic Residue Analysis Laboratory,’ Department of Anthropology, University of North Carolina, Wilmington, US, and at the ‘Archaeological Research Laboratory,’ Stockholm University, Sweden. She worked as a ‘Junior Research Fellow’ at the ‘Anthropological Survey of India,’ Ministry of Culture, and had been part of several national anthropological projects.

Ahana uses scientific tools like lipid residue analysis and compound-specific isotope analysis to evaluate the ancient food processing practices of the Harappan culture. Her work also focuses on the concept of the culinary landscape and different aspects of ‘realities’ and ‘representations’ of food. Ahana Ghosh has been the recipient of several grants, especially from ‘The Society of Archaeological Sciences, conducting a substantial part of her doctoral research. Ghosh has published her research in multiple reputed national and international journals and presented her work at several prestigious international conferences. Ahana Ghosh is also the founder of the online research forum ’Quest’ and has been successfully leading a team conducting online lectures and academic interactions since 2020.
