Nawruz (Nowruz) is often translated simply as "Persian" or "Iranian" New Year, but it is celebrated from the Uyghur regions of Western China all across Central Asia through to Iran and beyond, including parts of Russia, Afghanistan, and broader South Asia.

The holiday marks the spring equinox, on or around March 21st of each year.

Come join us in celebrating the arrival of spring with Central Asian food! There will also be presentations about Uyghur and Kazakh Nawruz traditions by CEAS's David Dettmann and Penn Kazakh Instructor Zhanar Beketova. Food will be served at sundown.

It is always a pleasure to connect across regions in celebration of the holidays and festivals we share.

Co-sponsored by CEAS, South Asia Center, Middle East Center, Russian and East European Studies, and the Pan-Asian American Community House

The event is free but please register to ensure we have enough food for everyone.
